THE TRAVELING MONK,
It is a site-specific installation conformed by various items, mainly textiles intervened with graphic markings that acquire a liturgical meaning. Garments, praying mats, utensils, and objects are presented as gifts, and ritual offerings in exchange for good luck, health, and well-being. Enveloped, and protected from sight objects are transformed by this special gesture making them sacred offerings, a symbol of peace and harmony.
A narration of an "unfinished journey", of constant renewal. Underlying is an exodus, a nomadic condition of migration. Questions of identity, language, ethnicity, and territory for a new cartography of what belonging means, beyond borders.
The Traveling Monk is an out-of-time voyager who transits through nowhere places with the sole mission of moving forward, without changing course, blindly and confidently one step at a time. The being moves with the belief that his journey has meaning. Its attire is adorned with symbols that bring protection, comfort, and good fortune chosen and collected by himself with an intention of keeping them as companions for a prosperous journey.
